Margon, a small wine-growing village near the historic town of Pézenas, halfway between the Mediterranean beaches and the first foothills of the Cévennes, has a very special feature : a superb 13th century chateau, reminiscent of many a fairy tale castle with three round, slate-covered towers and "banastas",arches over the moat, added by the lord of the castle in 1719.

Previously an old winery, converted recently to a hotel and restaurant, l'Auberge du Chateau is a brand new establishment and extremely comfortable.

It is a two-star hotel, listed by Logis de France, with 13 rooms, each with bathroom or shower room and separate toilet.

All rooms have television and direct telephone.

Enjoy the shade of the large garden and refreshing swimming pool.

There is also a terrace and private car park.

On the menu you will find traditional, gastronomic cuisine, prepared with care by the owner, Charles Kress.

Try his fresh foie gras with grapes marinated in Marc of Gewürtztraminer, or one the many game or fish specialities on his interesting menu. The best regional vintages will accompany your meal. The spacious air-conditioned restaurant may accommodate up to 120 people.

Margon is at the crossroads of tourist routes and interesting sites to visit : Pézenas, Cirque de Mourèze with dolomites, the Salagou lake with an amazing " red " landscape, the caves at Clamouze and the picturesque village of Saint Guilhem le Désert, not to mention the magnificent beaches along the coast. You will find sunshine and cicadas are just part of the magnificent scenery, and you are bound to appreciate the excellent food and wine to be found here.
